Miracles & Messages: The Morning Glory Story
One year after the 2007 Witch Creek Fire took my home, I stood back to “take in” the gift of a spectacular rebuild that took its place. And best of all, it was complete with the backyard of my dreams. A perfect sanctuary for meditation, complete with a water feature and an entire fence line of morning glories to greet me each morning.
Morning glories, you ask? Their vibrant colors, lush leaves and happy faces brought me daily joy. And they made great subjects for my paintings.
Two days after the fire, while inspecting the smoking perimeter of our old home and yard, something caught my eye. I bent down to look and could hardly believe my eyes. There stood one, tiny, deep purple-blue morning glory sticking straight up out of the rubble and ash.
At that very moment, a deep sense of joy, peace and hope enveloped me. Of course spirit would give me a “sign” that spoke only to me. My heart was so full. And it truly was the beginning of a miraculous journey forward.
The Universe is talking to you.
We are surrounded by daily miracles and messages – sent uniquely to and for us. But how many of us pass them by? How many of them go unnoticed? It seems that “progress” has made us way too busy or exhausted to find quiet time. We might relax by watching TV or going to a local bar, but how many of us deliberately create time to be still and listen to our “inner voice?”
All the answers you seek already exist within.
Do you realize that the earth turns on its axis just for you? The sun rises and sets just for you. The air you breathe is just for you. That’s how important you are in the greater scheme of things.
You even come equipped with a perfect, internal guidance system. Your very own GPS.
When you have that funny feeling that someone is going to call you and they do, do you acknowledge it? When you see a license plate that has your house number or a name or phrase that speaks to you, do you pay attention?
The Universe is singing your song. Talking to you constantly. Loving you incessantly. Don’t miss out on what it’s saying because you’re too busy to notice.
All we have is the present moment, wanting to guide us to our next best steps. Pay attention. Watch for the signs. Listen.

I had some recent doubts about my temporary living situation. Within one day of those thoughts, while glancing into the backyard from my upstairs window, what do you think appeared? Yep. Never-before-seen, spectacular, purple-blue morning glories cascading over the fence just for me. And I knew instantly that I was SO on track.
